It’s always a treat when Ellis Paul graces the stage at Concerts at the Crossing. In case you haven’t had the good fortune to attend an Ellis Paul performance, he’s a critically-acclaimed singer, songwriter, poet, and troubadour originally hailing from a potato farming family in northern Maine. An engaging performer and raconteur, he is the recipient of 13 Boston Music Awards, second only to multi-platinum act, Aerosmith. Over the course of sixteen years, Ellis Paul has built a vast catalog of music which weds striking poetic imagery and philosophical introspection with hook-laden melodies. It’s a pleasure to have him back with us this season. www.ellispaul.com

Prior to her latest album, Neon Streets (2010), Caitlin independently produced several EPs and one full-length album, Green (2007), which she recorded and mixed herself.
Don’t miss this very special concert celebrating the works of classic country songwriters from the 1950’s through the 1970’s as performed by four of our favorite Philadelphia-area performers, including Suzie Brown, Brittany Ann, Natalie Acciani, Chuck Schaeffer. They’ll be joined and accompanied throughout the evening by multi-instrumentalist Jim Henry who has appeared at Concerts at the Crossing in the past accompanying Tracy Grammer and has been on tour for the past two years in Mary Chapin Carpenter’s band. Each of these artists will put their own twist to these songs as well as perform their own classic country flavored originals. Expect to hear such songs as “I Walk the Line,” “Crazy,” “Jolene,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “King of the Road,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and many more favorites that have become classic country standards.

Ariana Gillis is intriguing, funny, thoughtful, and writes songs about issues most people haven’t got their heads around yet—like terrorists building a bomb and falling in love at the same time, or brave soldiers returning down the highway after dying in Afghanistan, or how close she came to drowning on a carefree Florida holiday, or a funny fantasy inspired by the Life of Pi. In 2009 she was recognized as Young Performer of the Year at the Canadian Folk Awards, and in 2010 she garnered two 2010 Niagara Music Awards for Album of the Year and Top Female Vocalist. She won the Niagara Songwriting Award the previous year. She performs with her dad, David, an award-winning guitarist who also was recently nominated for a 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award for Producer of the Year.

A blast of energy and fearless confidence, Ariana Gillis sings and strums and stomps and leaves ripples behind her wherever she goes.
Over the last few years I have had the opportunity to hear and observe Ariana Gillis perform in several varied venues — a showcase of young artists at the OCFF conference, an intimate nightclub, a folk festival workshop stage.
