Bookings

Interested in playing Concerts at the Crossing? The following information should help you determine if you are a good fit for our venue and if we are a good fit for you.

- We typically present 8-9 concerts a season and usually book 6-12 months in advance. That works out to 8-9 headliners and 5-7 support acts.

- We consider ourselves a concert series rather than a “folk music” series although some of the performers we present fit neatly into that “folk music” genre. Note that we rarely present what might be described as “traditional folk” a la the types of acts that often play at the Princeton Folk Music Society. That said, we prefer not to limit ourselves by defining the types of music genres we present, but we do NOT present classical, rap, hip-hop, electronica, or world music. I’m sure we can add more genres to that list, but you get the idea. Feel free to browse our ”Past Seasons” page for a better idea of the type of acts we present.

- We expect our headliners to draw anywhere from 125-250 people. Our capacity is 250-275. Anything less than 125 and we’re going to take a loss on the night. We don’t mind taking the occasional loss on a performer who we really like, but we don’t want to make a habit out of it.

 - We try to use support acts as often as possible and take great pleasure in presenting young, up and coming performers who may some day develop into a headliner in a mid-size venue like ours.  We have a long waiting list now, but have been known to bump someone special to the top of the list.  We rarely expect our support acts to be much of a draw unless we find a hook and can work that with the local press.  We rarely use local performers as support anymore, and prefer to give these slots to acts who are new to our audience and the market. If you’re a local performer, would your fans who can see you play for free or next to nothing be willing to pay $20-$25 to watch you do a 25-minute opening slot? Probably not.  If you can convince us that they will, then maybe we should talk.

- If you see a show listed as “An Evening with…” that means the performer has requested we do not have a support act that night or that money for a support act is not in our budget. So please don’t contact us about opening for that “Evening with…” performer.

- We tend to keep up to date on who has buzz, but even when we do our homework, you might still not make it on our radar whether you’re a headliner or a support act.  As harsh as the above may sound about our support act policy, we’d still love to hear from you. Who knows, maybe you’re the guy or gal that we bump to the top of the list.  No need to send us promo materials. Just send us a link to your Website or MySpace page. E-mail Scott Cullen at concertsatthecrossing@yahoo.com. If we need anything else, we’ll let you know.

This place of yours sounds amazing, I’ve been waiting for a chance to open up for acts, learn and eventually build a bigger fan base.

    Nancy,

We should talk, I’m very interested in bringing the Angel Band to Concerts at the Crossing. I’m all booked for the coming season, but maybe we can work something out for Oct. 2010. Please e-mail me at concertsatthecrossing@yahoo.com and we can continue the discussion.

    Regards,
